How do you machine a job with a non-monotonic variation in surface profile, i.e., with radial or axial undercuts, if Type II G71 / G72 cycles are not available? May use a CAM software if you have access to it. That is perfectly okay. But, how do you machine a workpiece obtained by casting or forging with only slightly oversized dimensions, say, about 2 mm? One cannot use G70 because removing 2-3 mm material in one pass may not be permissible. G71 or G72 would be too inefficient because the tool would cut in air most of the time. One can, of course, use a CAM software where the initial shape may be appropriately defined, but that also requires additional modeling time as well as software expertise. G73, on the other hand, can very quickly machine it to the final size in just a few passes (depending on the chosen depth of cut in one pass and the amount of over-size). About the Author
Prof. S. K. Sinha�earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1993. He has 25 years of teaching experience, and has been working in the CNC area for over 15 years. He has authored "CNC Programming Using Fanuc Custom Macro B," published by McGraw-Hill, New York. Apart from this book, and a book on the basic CNC programming, he has published several e-books (Kindle Edition) in the series "CNC Programming Skills."�
The first book in this series is "CNC Programming Skills: Program Entry and Editing on Fanuc Machines," which gives complete, yet concise and step-by-step information on editing procedures using the MDI panel.

The second book in this series is "CNC Programming Skills: Understanding G73 on a Fanuc Lathe." Its publication was inspired by the fact that most people, just because of ignorance, do not use such a powerful canned cycle G73 even when it has got a perfect application.

The third book in this series is "CNC Programming Skills: Live Tool Drilling Cycles on a Fanuc Lathe." I do not like that there are not any answer pages at the end of book for the Knowledge Assessment at the end of the chapter.
I like the presentation format of this book. The material in this book are powerful things you need to know about
in the Windows Development environment. I think you need this book to pass the exam. I think that 80 percent of the
exam 98-362 is derived from this book. It could be more but that is my opinion I passed the exam April 19, 2014,
so I feel that I am able to give a realistic review of this book. Buy it and read it for the knowledge even if you do not
want to take the exam.

About the Author
Donald L. Pavia earned his BS degree in chemistry from Reed College and his PhD in organic chemistry from Yale University. Professor Pavia's research interests center on the synthesis and reactions of valence tautomeric and photochromic compounds, especially pyrylium-3-oxide tautomers. Autoxidations are a special interest. His other interests include the use of computers in teaching organic chemistry, both for lecture presentation and for the simulation of laboratories. He is the author of several computer programs. One such program is SQUALOR (Simulated Qualitative Organic Analysis) for which he won the 1986 EDUCOM/NCRIPTAL award. The program is designed for teaching the methods for solving organic unknowns.

George S. Kriz is Professor of Chemistry at Western Washington University. He earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of California, and his Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. In 1967 he joined the faculty at Western Washington University and recently served as department chair. He served as the General Chair of the 17th Biennial Conference on Chemical Education for 2001-2002. Professor Kriz was honored with the Peter J. Elich Excellence in Teaching Award (College of Arts and Sciences), Western Washington University, in 2000 and the Distinguised Service Award from the Division of Chemical Education, American Chemical Society (2010). He is the co-author with Donald Pavia, Gary Lampman, and Randall Engel of two organic laboratory books that include both techniques and experiments: INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES: A MICROSCALE APPROACH (Cengage Learning), and A SMALL SCALE APPROACH TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES (Cengage Learning). Their book, MICROSCALE AND MACROSCALE TECHNIQUES IN THE ORGANIC LABORATORY (Cengage Learning), includes techniques only, and can be used with a faculty member's own experiments. He is a co-author, with Donald Pavia, Gary Lampman, and James Vyvyan, of an organic spectroscopy book, INTRODUCTION TO SPECTROSCOPY (Cengage Learning). Professor Kriz's research interests include: developing new experiments for the organic chemistry laboratory; chemical education and the teaching of chemistry courses for general-understanding audiences; and determination of the structures of natural products using spectroscopic methods.

Gary M. Lampman earned his BS degree in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Washington. In 1964, he joined the faculty at Western Washington University as Assistant Professor, rising to Professor in 1973. He received the Outstanding Teaching Award for the College of Arts and Sciences in 1976. He now holds the title of Professor Emeritus. Teaching has always been an important part of his life. Contact with students invigorates him. He is the coauthor of two organic laboratory books that include techniques and experiments: INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES: A MICROSCALE APPROACH (Cengage Learning), and A SMALL SCALE ARPPROACH TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES (Cengage Learning), as well as MICROSCALE AND MACROSCALE TECHNIQUES IN THE ORGANIC LABORATORY (Cengage Learning), which highlights techniques to be used with a faculty member's own experiments. He is a co-author, with Donald L. Pavia, George S. Kriz, and James R. Vyvyan of an organic spectroscopy book, INTRODUCTION TO SPECTROSCOPY, Fourth Edition (Cengage Learning). Professor Lampman also is the author of the computer program for teaching organic nomenclature: ORGANIC NOMENCLATURE: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE IUPAC SYSTEM. His research interests center on synthetic methods involving the reaction of free radicals on unsaturated cobaloximes (vitamin B12 model compounds), synthesis of strained small ring compounds, and chemical education. He is the author of 18 papers in these areas. He is a member of the American Chemical Society (Organic and Chemical Education divisions), and the Washington College Chemistry Teachers Association.

Randall G. Engel has taught chemistry for almost 35 years. He has co-authored with Donald Pavia, Gary Lampman, and George Kriz INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES: A MICROSCALE APPROACH (Cengage Learning), and A SMALL SCALE INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUES (Cengage Learning). Their book, MICROSCALE AND MACROSCALE TECHNIQUES IN THE ORGANIC LABORATORY (Cengage Learning), includes techniques only, and can be used with a faculty member's own experiments. Engel received his B.A. degree in chemistry from Cornell College and his M.S. degree in chemistry from Western Washington University. About the Author

Tony Gaddis is the principal author of the Starting Out With series of textbooks. He is a highly acclaimed instructor with two decades of experience teaching computer science courses, primarily at Haywood Community College. Tony was previously selected as �the North Carolina Community College “Teacher of the Year” and has received the Teaching Excellence award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development. The Starting Out With series includes introductory textbooks covering Programming Logic and Design, C++, Java™, Microsoft� Visual Basic�, Microsoft� C#, Python, App Inventor, and Alice, all published by Pearson.

Judy Walters is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where she teaches courses in both Computer Science and Media Studies. Good deal, just add your own 3-ring binder

This "book" looked sketchy at first: it's not bound, no one else has reviewed it, and it came with a 1-2 day "processing" wait time from the seller.

I gambled and bought it anyway I didn't want to pay $160+ and wait 1-2 weeks for processing for the "real book". I got it for OSU's eCampus CS 161 course and I'm happy I did. I much prefer paper books to ebooks, and it was significantly cheaper than buying the actual bound book version. It got to me in WA state 3 days after I ordered it, thanks to Prime shipping.

You'll need to stick it in a 3-ring binder. I recommend a 2" binder with straight edge rings.

This "book" (stack of papers, really) is printed on both sides and exactly 1.5" thick. It comes pre-punched and the individual pages are printed in color. Not a bad deal.

Love Tony Gaddis Series

I've used Gaddis' Java and now C++. I love his style of presentation. I'm just learning both languages so I like the consistency of his format, which gives an introduction and then an extended code which focuses on the subject that he introduced. I use the phrase "extended code" because I took a visual basic class using text by a different author. That author would give an introduction and then show the code out of context so it was hard to conceptualize what he was talking about or how to use the code. With Gaddis, the code is in a functioning. He would introduce the subject of the code. Utilize a program that uses the code and then break down the code to highlight the code of topic. His style felt "comprehensive".

In addition to Gaddis' personal style of presentation, his text is part of the Pearson Higher Education publications. Pearson is student oriented so there are online tutorials (video notes) which offers a lot of student assistance. I recommend this text and Gaddis to any instructor or student learning programming.

Accessible for a non-human language

I have several [C++] textbooks that delve into the subjects of programming. The aforementioned text [Starting out with C++ Early Objects, 7th (e)] is extremely helpful, with quite a bit of information. It [C++] is the required text for the upcoming semesters, and not just my introductory class, so it covers beginning C++, intermediate C++, and introduction to data structures. I highly recommend this text, as the language of programming can be fairly abstract, and the authors take care not to intimidate even the most illiterate in technology.

Other texts can be rather audacious in their assumptions of the average readers comprehension of mathematics. Fortunately, I am rather skilled with math, but that should not be a decisive factor in this purchase, as the the first couple of chapters implement example after example with regards to the translation of mathematics into codes and strings.

All-in-all, I highly recommend this book. Computer science is the innovation of the future, and the demand for said skills is higher than ever.

P.S. Most computer science textbooks are atrociously expensive at campus bookstores, so I highly recommend to purchase it on amazon. Also, you could buy it used, as the IDE [Integrated development environment] used in the book is Microsoft Visual Studio (2005, 2008, 2010...any version) which can be downloaded from the Windows software site (Visual Studio Express is free).

My campus bookstore charges $220 for this book, I got it for $98 [New] here on amazon. Brand New books come with video lectures and Microsoft VS 2010, however if you can get used and save even more, that would work too, just make sure to download Visual Studio Express.
