About the Author
SARAH PERRY holds an M.F.A. in nonfiction from Columbia University, where she served as publisher of Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art and was a member of the journal's nonfiction editorial board. She is the recipient of a Writers’ Fellowship from the Edward F. Albee Foundation and a Javits Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education, and has attended residencies at Norton Island in Maine and PLAYA in Oregon. Perry’s prose has appeared in Blood & Thunder magazine and Bluestockings Literary Journal. She lives in Brooklyn.

About the Author
Marieke de Mooij, Ph.D. (Netherlands), is a consultant in cross-cultural communications, as well as a retired profesora associada of international advertising at the University of Navarra in Spain and visiting professor at several universities across the world. She is the author of several academic publications on the influence of culture on marketing and advertising. She has also authored books on culture and consumer behavior as well as culture and communication theory worldwide.

A unique perspective on consumer behaviour

The book is unique in that Marieke K Mooij uses theories from cultural anthroplogy and interpersonal communication to present a framework for consumer behaviour. It is particularly useful for practioners who are working in underresearched markets and are looking for ways to explain why consumers behave the way they do. The book makes extensive use of Hofstede's 5-D model to locate members of different cultures along the dimensions of culture and then uses this to explain differences in buying behaviour, communication styles and advertising appeals. The conclusion of the book is that individual behaviour is shaped more by the culture they belong to than it is by income or other differentiators. The one limitation of the book is that most of the examples are European, but I would recommend it even for those interested in Asian markets

This book review is on a 'titre personnel" basis.
I enjoyed the international advertising course which Marieke gave at Universidad de Navarra in 1997. As a teacher she is very capable of communicating the importance and urgency of this diverse and complex subject: managing marketing communications and brands within the outer/ and inner spheres of market cultures. Marieke applies the 5 dimensional model of G.Hofstede to illustrate and diferentiate a clear and full colour image of cultures and values. Being dutch myself, I recognise both the theory of Hofstede, but also the paradoxes Marieke has found. Intrigueing phenomena such as Japanese business success and collectivism, such as status and success in feminine cultures etc etc are often raising eyebrows, and not seldomly at highbrow corporate levels.
Cultural understanding, I have learnt, is possible only after understanding one's own culture, and a commitment to learn about the other culture, not matching it with your own. Marieke does this very well, she places anecdotes and case-studies is an objective setting, viewing it with an uncoloured microscope. She has added theory, academic research and good practice to make this book complete.
This book, for me, is one of the few great books on international (intercultural) marketing communications (and brand management).

The book itself is fine. The problem I'm facing is navigating through the pages, especially skipping to different chapters. MOST of the time, the book freezes, does not respond, and I am forced to close out and reopen it. Once reopened, it takes three to four tries to go to the chapter that I wish to read. When I access this on my laptop, it's a little easier to navigate, but it's still a bit annoying to not be able to scroll normally, only page by page, and it's slow loading.
In normal books, this usually isn't a problem because you read it all the way through once. For a college textbook, since flipping back and forth throughout the book is crucial, it becomes a problem. I am studying online at a university in the US from Brazil in order to be with my father through some difficult times this semester. This means the eTextbook is my lifeline. I don't have access to physical books, and I don't have other students who could help me the way they could in a traditional classroom setting. So far, I have been able to get by studying for the exams, but the added pressure of not knowing if my book will open doesn't help!
Compared to the other eTextbook I have on Chegg, this is not a good layout.

its a good book. this isnt your average mahou shoujo manga. its more than that. but this would only make sense to people who read the original series and the movies and the tv series. :D

Same as the first volume, essentially

There's not much to say about this one that I didn't say about the first volume. The art is the major setback here. It doesn't look good. There's too much going on in the panels, to the point where it's hard to tell what's happening. This, of course, gets in the way of understanding the story, so you might end up getting lost if you haven't seen the movie already.

Pudo haber sido mejor y menos extenso

Es un buen libro,pero en mi opinion pudo haber sido mejor si fuera menos extenso,a veces es demasiada informacion y se hace denso,como ocurre en la parte del libro de Elias y otras un poco que se repite en lo mismo.Esta muy bien documentado lo mismo en la parte de los judios que en la de las pinturas, sus personajes estan muy bien descritos,hace un verdadero espejo de la realidad cubana en todos sus matices,fundamentalmente en el de las ideas despues de tantos anos de carencias materiales,de derechos y de libertades.Son tres historias que se entrelazan.las descripciones nos transportan perfectamente a las distintas etapas,pero sin embargo como ya anote a veces me parecen excesivas,densas y repetitivas,por ello es que le doy cuatro estrellas.

Una novela casi perfecta

Esta extraordinaria novela combina un episodio de la historia de Cuba, la llegada del vapor St. Louis con su carga de judíos que no logran entrar a la Isla y son devueltos a los hornos de Hitler y sus campos de concentración, con el de un cuadro de Rembrandt al que Mario Conde le sigue la pista junto a la desaparición de una chica emo. Todo este entramado se devuelve a la Amsterdam del famoso pintor, para contar el origen del cuadro y retrotraernos a la Cuba actual del realismo sucio de Leonardo Padura Fuentes y su novelística. Conjuga aquí este escritor, Premio Princesa de Asturias 2015, sus dos vertientes narrativas: una summa de novela negra (sobre el detective Mario Conde) y una continuación de sus novelas históricas (El hombre que amaba los perros -sobre Trotsky- y La novela de mi vida -sobre José María Heredia- ) para entregarnos una novela casi perfecta. Además, en Herejes resurge su inacabada reflexión y crítica social sobre la Cuba revolucionaria, desde adentro, y sus relaciones pendulares con los exilados cubanos de Miami.

Very Substandard "Textbook"

This book was very expensive and is full of typos. Very unprofessional writing Janet Horne. Some of the instructions don't even make sense. You just have to ignore the stuff that makes no sense. Some of the things are just plain WRONG. Like reprinting a payment receipt after recording a NSF check. Makes no sense because the payment receipt prints out exactly the same before and after recording the NSF check, so what is the point? Those are just a couple of the many reasons I feel this book is a total rip off. The paper is cheap and flimsy and the print is also extremely low quality. If you try to erase a pencil marking off of a page and lightly erase over part of the text it erases right off the page. This should not happen in a "textbook" that costs $170.00 + tax. To make matters worse the price has gone down 20 dollars since I bought it 2 months ago. And to add insult to injury, the writing seems to be geared toward a very low level of ability. Without a doubt the worst college "textbook" I have ever had the unfortunate experience of having to use for a class.

Mark Harrison is a good teacher

I have three of Mark Harrison's intro books (blues, jazz, country) -- they are all good. In the jazz book, I especially consider his method of teaching the circle of fifths/fourths and the 2-5-1 chord progression as very understandable and helpful. I have numerous other books on learning jazz piano; Mark Harrison's is superior to most. Now I am not a professional pianist -- just learning it because it is such fun and so fulfilling a recreation.

I’ve been playing piano for 3 years now. This book is at a level that it is very doable. The exercises help develop an understanding of chords and melody treatment in all the musical keys. The companion CD is helpful. I’m having fun going learning about JAZZ. Mk

Effective, easy use and really complete.

It has all you need to start thinking like a Jazz player. The exercises are presented in "step by step form" so you won't jump from super easy to impossible at any point. Of course, it's an INTRO book, so remember it's aimed to give you the basics about chord voicings (and how to apply basic but effective rhythms to them) and a little bit of Lead Sheet reading so you can star playing tunes of the Real Book on your own.
I've already bought Beginning Rock Keyboard and let me tell you it's as good as this one. I cannot tell if the whole serie of these books is as great as the two Harrison's I've bought or is something exclusive of this instructor in particular. I'm planning to keep adding this books to my collection so I will find out at some point.

Beware of false and numerous reviews of this book-- something ain't right here

This is a very simple book with little information. Please note that most of these reviews listed here are bogus. I clicked on that last four reviewers and they had all reviewed the same books. Why would so many people even care about XML to write 259 reviews? It doesn't make sense. Please beware of these false reviews and don't spend $14 for this simple book.

After learning quite a few programming languages such as Java, HTML, and a little bit of C++, I have found that this language does seem a little bit more complex, but I think that makes it all the better in my opinion. XML Programming Success in a Day written by Sam Key does get into a lot of detail through graph drawings, and perfectly explained directions.

Kindle Version on PC is useless, diagrams are not shown correctly, in a usefull way. Do not buy this book if you intend to read it on your PC using the Kindle app.

This doesn't say the book is bad. It's an Amazon/Kindle App problem on PC.

UPDATE:
So i read a bit more. I think the book is really bad, all those good reviews here are bogus imo. The first 20 pages are written in an understandable way (so anyone checking the first pages gets the impression it is a good book). Then suddenly starting with chapter 3 the style changes completely and becomes confusing and unreadable. Suddenly nothing is explained anymore and the book becomes useless/worthless.

To summarize: Kindle version has presentation problems, and the book itself is unreadable after a good start. It's the first time i want my money back as i feel double cheated by Amazon (Kindle version, bogus reviews). Clearly i can't trust the reviews here anymore in the future.

I requested a refund.
